US News: CT is third best state for healthcare

New US News rankings find Connecticut’s healthcare system is behind only Hawaii and Massachusetts. The rankings are based on surveys across all 50 states and primarily government data. We are fortunate to be # 2 in the US in Healthcare Access and # 5 in Public Health Outcomes. We are a bit lower, at # 14, for Healthcare Quality. We are below average in Preventable Hospital Admissions and Medicare Quality.
Connecticut’s overall ranking across all areas is 15th among states. Our best ranking is for healthcare at # 3. Our worst ranking at # 48 is for Fiscal Stability.
Our performance in Healthcare Access includes:

- # 5 in Child Dental Visits
- # 6 in Adult Wellness Visits
- # 14 in Healthcare Affordability
- # 15 in Health Insurance Enrollment
Our performance in Public Health Outcomes includes:

- # 4 in Low Suicide Rate
- # 5 in Low Mortality Rate
- # 6 in Low Infant Mortality Rate
- # 8 in Low Obesity Rate
- # 14 in Mental Health
Our performance in Quality includes:

- # 14 in Nursing Home Quality
- # 24 in Preventable Hospital Admissions
- # 32 in Medicare Quality
Methodology: The scores are based on three separate surveys of Americans across all 50 states asking how satisfied they are with their state’s performance in critical areas and what their state should prioritize. They also primarily used government data sets for metrics, which are listed online. Data sources for Healthcare include the US Census, CMS, CDC, and US News Best Hospitals and Nursing Homes.
