ICER seeking new members of comparative effectiveness panel

The Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) has opened nominations for their New England Comparative Effectiveness Public Advisory Council. The council, one of three in the US, is composed of leading clinicians, patient and public representatives, methodologists, and health economists. The group meets three times each year to consider ICER effectiveness reports on the value of new drugs, devices and delivery system innovations. ICER, an independent nonprofit, is a national leader in building value and controlling costs in the US health system. ICER reports are used by Medicare, Medicaid, VA and commercial payers in negotiating fair prices and keeping coverage affordable. As a former member of the Council, it is hard work taking a deep dive into complex science and health policy weeds, but it is one of the most satisfying public service experiences I’ve had in my career.
