Another gift from COVID – CT life expectancy dropped 1.9 years in 2020

In 2020, Connecticut life expectancy at birth dropped to 78.4 years, down 1.9 years from 2019, according to a new CDC report. Life expectancy dropped in all states. Any drop is awful, but Connecticut’s metric is still tenth best in the nation, behind Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. New York had the largest drop in the nation, losing 3 years of life. Hawaii had the longest life expectancy in 2020 at 80.7 years with the lowest drop of only 0.2 years. Connecticut male life expectancy in 2020 was 5.7 years less than for females, 24th among states (75.6, 81.3 years). Life expectancy reflects the overall health of a population.
